Our Storyline
Syndon Crafts is a premium designer boutique initiated by two enthusiastic Lucknowites, both with experiences of more than 20 years each in business consulting and banking, who quit the corporate world to work on what is very close to their hearts. Syndon Crafts is committed to the revival and promotion of our ‘handcrafted heritage of Lucknow, India’ – the art of ‘chikankari’ and its highly skilled artisans. Our product highlights are, the rare and classy hand embroideries, the quality and richness of fabrics, a distinctive use of colors, and a gloriously rich Indian aesthetic. Since we are built on the patronage of craftspeople, we are making a significant impact in creating employment in underdeveloped areas around Lucknow. Each designer piece stands for sophistication, ethnicity and glamour and can be made into a traditional outfit or into a contemporary design.
Our Mission
Our mission and purpose is to revive and promote the finest artisanal techniques and convert them into a product relevant to a contemporary India. The handicraft production not only provides the highly skilled artisans employment, but also brings them self-empowerment and dignity.
The Chikan Handicraft
The Chikan Handicraft or Chikankari, also known as shadow work or the floral whitework of India, is a traditional embroidery style from Lucknow, India. Literally translated, the word ‘chikan’ means ‘embroidery’. Believed to have been introduced by Nur Jehan, the wife of Mughal emperor Jahangir, it is one of India’s best known textile decoration styles. The name ‘Syndon’ is derived from the fine linen muslin originally used by the Mughals for the embroidery. A skill more than 200 years old, the embroidery is famous for its timeless grace and gossamer delicacy.
